Recent typhoons and intense rainstorms have caused widespread damage across Hong Kong - including to our local farms. But how did our Restore Fund farms hold up against these extreme weather events? Organic Farmula, now in its second year of transition, is showing promising signs of resilience. Thanks to regenerative practices like cover cropping (to strengthen soil integrity), bioactive plant nutrients (to support strong, healthy crops), and mulching (to prevent soil erosion), many of their crops survived the storm and are now ready for harvest.

Farm operator Kelvis shared that while there’s still room to grow, she’s optimistic. With continued transition support and new infrastructure, she believes the farm will become even more efficient and resilient in the seasons to come. This is just one of many stories showing how regenerative agriculture is not just sustainable - it’s climate-smart.

    Our Restore Farms are always exploring new crop varieties - and this season, Kelvis at Organic Farmula introduced a unique Thai variety of eggplant.

    These sphere-shaped eggplants not only offer a distinctive flavour and texture, but also showed impressive resilience during recent storms, sustaining very little damage while many other crops struggled.

    If you get the chance, give them a try - you might be surprised by how delicious (and climate-hardy) they are!

    The next project at Organic Farmula is setting up a resource area so they can prepare their own materials, such as wood chips, mulch, and compost.

    As a production farm and supplier to local schools and supermarkets, maintaining consistent output is essential for Organic Farmula.

    Thanks to their greenhouse setup, a recent crop of bitter gourds not only escaped the worst of the storms, but also showed no signs of pest infestation or disease - a testament to the strength of regenerative practices and protected growing environments.

    This kind of success highlights the importance of resilient infrastructure in ensuring food security, even during extreme weather events.
