GREEN ACRES ORCHARD

Penang, Malaysia

Farmer: Eric Chong

Based in Penang, this orchard has been nurtured through biodynamic and regenerative approaches for years. With mature trees and a system already in harmony, this farm offers us a chance to see what regenerative agriculture looks like when given time, patience, and consistent care.

Farmer Eric is not without his challenges. With no established irrigation system and limited manpower, the slopes at this orchard expose the land to low moisture retention. By establishing permanent inter-row living cover, contour-aware mulch, and buffer vegetation in the coming year, it will help to stabilise the surface, protect exposed land, and protect runoff and water retention. Without sufficient irrigation buffer, it will impact future biologically dependent applications as well.

As implementation continues, Green Acres is on course to set a regenerative standard for all fruit orchards in Malaysia.

“After 80 years of chemical-free farming on this plot, it'd be great to find out how the soil is doing and be better informed about how to make the fruits even better and safer.”
