As a newcomer to regenerative farming, Farmer Karen has been actively visiting fellow community members' farms, a practice encouraged by our appointed advisor. Through these visits, she has not only gained valuable insights but also built strong relationships within the network—supporting and learning from one another.

During a recent visit, Karen shared her excitement about their progress. One major milestone stood out: a significant increase in crop yields after just eight months of implementing regenerative practices. “Before, the crops we grew weren’t even enough to feed ourselves. Now, we have more than we need—but still not quite enough to sell commercially, since we’re just a really small farm.” she told us with a smile.

    Grow Something finally got their hands on mushroom substrates! After months of using dried cut grass as mulch (which the effectiveness is not as great as mushroom substrates), they are now able to witness firsthand how it will help improve soil health

    Karen excitedly shared her growing collection of bio-active plant nutrient ferments and the plans she has for them. From collecting food waste from her community to making fish hydrolysate and blending a custom cocktail of ferments for application, she is well on her way to mastering the art of nutrient management through regenerative practices.

    Other than the mushroom substrates, Karen also got biochar from the Hong Kong EcoPark, made with local woody waste. To ensure maximum effectiveness, she is soaking them in ferments for a month before implementation. We wonder how it will turn out!
